Selfies and Merdeka Celebration

Selfie. A noun. Means to take a photo of oneself or with others on your own or by using aparatus such as monopod.
Kalau amik gamba sendiri menggunakan khidmat bantuan orang tidak dikira selfie.

Selfie also was nominated as the most used word of the year 2013. Everybody is into selfie. From average teenagers like you and i (eh teenagers ke?) Okay i mean average joes, to  huge stars like Ellen and influential leaders like our Prime Minister and Mr POTUS himself.

Since selfie is a crazy nowadays, admit it you do it as well, jangan nak poyo poyo cakap ko tak berselfie ye?, we attempted to break the Guiness World of Records with the most selfie taken within an hour. Currently, the record was 421 by the Canadians on July this year. Maksudnya tak sampai setahun or beberapa bulan rekod tu akan pergi kat orang lain (kita la tu).
I find it surprising that the current record holder is not from an Asian country. I might be stereotyping but i think i see a lot of Asians taking selfies than other countries, but... i might be wrong.

Anyways, it was an interesting attempt. I mean why not we take something that we love to do (well most of us) and do something that will make us proud? Right?

Well the attempt was fairly simple. Get 500 people to take individual selfie with a designated person within one hour.

So the queue went on and on and on... i think they managed to get 500 people or maybe more.

It was fun and interesting experience.

It was a memorable merdeka celebration.

57 years and a Decade of Love

It has been 57 years since our former Prime, Tunku Abdul Rahman, shouted the word "Merdeka" 7 times in front of thousands of Malaysians.

A lot has been achieved since then. We have one of the tallest buildings in the world. We have our own national cars and we have sent a Malaysian to space and who knows we might send a second one day.

A lot has happened since then as well. Incidences that made us go "oh my lord what is happening?" I'd rather not say or pick those incidences,  you know what I am talking about.

Despite all that, nothing could change how I feel towards my country. The people can be rather shitty at times. But hey, you'll find shitty people everywhere. So it is not a reason not to love your country. 

I wouldn't change it for any amount of money or diamonds or gold. I was born here and i intend to die here.

My love towards my country will never fade. It'll be as strong as Tuah's loyalty towards the Sultan of Melaka.

Speaking of Tuah, this year marks the 10th anniversary of the epic film Puteri Gunung Ledang or Princess of Mount Ledang.

A tale of love and loyalty. A well known admiral named Tuah who fell in love with a princess from another land. To save the land, tje princess' brother decided to marry her off to the Sultan of Melaka. Tuah's loyalty and love to the princess was challenged by his loyalty to the Sultan.
In the end he decided to let go of his love and went away. The princess, a smart one decided to decline the marriage proposal by imposing 7 impossible requests:

1) Silver bridge from the top of Mount Ledang to Melaka
2) Golden bridge from Melaka to Mount Ledang
3) 7 trays of germs' heart
4) 7 trays of mosquitoes' heart
5) 7 pots of betel's juice
6) 7 pots of virgins' tears
7) a bowl of the Prince's blood

The Sultan was adamant to marry her decided to accept all requests. However, the princess decided to decline and wanted to stay on Mount Ledang. The Sultan, ego bruised, accepted her decision with a curse, nobody can see her. Anyone who sees her will die horribly.

In the end, nobody knows that happened to Tuah nor the princess.

So the production house that produced the movie decided to play it again expecially for its 10th anniversary and merdeka day.

It was fun to watch the movie again with a those who loves the movie. Met a lot of people there and it was fun.

So It has FINALLY Arrived! (a quick review of the latest apple flagship phone)

Some were stunned, shocked and even disappointed when apple announced the launch of their (then) latest iphone about a year or so ago.

Many expected to see the illusive iphone 5, instead they were served with a tiny software upgraded version called the 4s.

12 September, again, aticipation were built up with tonnes of leaks of the design and look of the latest and the most anticipated, iphone 5 (or the new iphone or whatever apple decided to call it).

Alas the people received what they wanted. But looking at the aesthetic design, apple did not deviate much from the previous device design.

We can clearly see the difference between the iphone and iphone 4. However the only difference between the previous iphone and this particular one is the screen height. Yep it is a tad taller than 4s, giving the consumer the feel of bigger screen (the 4inch experience so they said).
Well apart from that it is also 20% thinner and lighter as well.

That's it?
I expected something more with all the hype and all. *sigh*

Oh apart from that, iphone5 comes with a whole new port where you need to purchase an adapter (costs you at about $29) in order to use previous products on.this new baby.
Ah what a way to make more money.

Moving on to the inside of the device.
This time around apple had infused 4g LTE in its device, hence making downloading over the internet much faster (if you have 4g available, if you are living in a 3g area downloading would still takes ages).
Processor wise, the A6 is claimed to be the fastest processor (again as opposed to the PREVIOUS iphone) and according to apple, this processor helps elongate the battery life.

Before moving on to the camera, one tiny information (no pun intended) this device will use nano sim. Yup, nano sim and you can say bye bye to you micro sim because you definitely can't fit it into this device.

Camera, ah... The main purpose of a smarphone. Apple has decided to keep the camera to 8 megapixel. The lense are covered with saphire to make it lasts longer. Apature, accordingly it is f2.4 which should make your photo looks nicer.
One thing that apple hyped about the camera is the panorama scene. Passe, but let apple be excited about this feature.

Well basically some of the features available in the illusive iphone5 have been available on android platform phones.
Aesthetically not much of difference between the previous iphone and this so called flagship apple phone since the launch of the iphone.

However, rest assured there WILL be a loooong line infront of apple shops or launch events on the day of the launch.

How the product will perform in the smartphone wars, can't tell yet but however the performance will be, there will be people dying to have this phone.

Or not?

We'll see.

Gosh for a person who doesn't like iphone, i sure write a lot about it.

I had to write this.

So, we all know that the GE is coming it's way sooner or later.

And, as it is approaching a lot of things are happening.

However, I am more concerned about what's going on among the Youths of these nation.

So I've hears, read and watch that some of these youths are starting to make their voice heard through all these perhimpunan and all.

in my opinion:

- what are you trying to prove through this?
- if you want ptptn to abolish, why didn't you think of the negative side of it when you signed the contract? yes you can choose NOT to take it.
- and you do know that if you get FIRST class, the debt can be waived right?

On another matter (free education)

- we are not living in an ideal world
- everything needs money
- well perhaps primary education can be free but tertiary?
- look at it this way, when you got things for free, you won't appreciate it much.
- also the people who walks in the class and teaches you are NOT cheap. the infrastructure are NOT free.

Generally.

If a certain party says that they will abolish the tuition fees and PTPTN, let them fight the war.

You, go study and when the time comes, go vote and if they win, make sure they fulfill their promises.

If they fail, THEN you berhimpun.

As for now, go study and get first class so that you will get your free education (esp. free from PTPTN)

Leap of Faith

Life is a funny thing. It makes you wait and it makes you wait some more. Finally, it gives you what you want. That is the best thing that could happen to anyone. For that matter. The wait feels like it was nothing.

However, when what you want is presented, there's always a fine line or a catch that comes with it. I guess the catch or the fine line is there to see how much you want it. How much you are willing to sacrifice o get what you want.

Yes, Alhamdulillah, finally i am halfway to get what I have always wanted. To work in broadcasting line (at the moment of speaking/writing, I am yet to wait for my current workplace to release me). The pay is not that much but i guess that's the sacrifice that I have to make. Well nothing comes for free right? It doesn't matter though, cause this is what I want and opportunities like this doesn't present itself very often.

So here I am at the edge of a cliff, preparing myself to take that leap that might take me to the other side or fall flat on my face. Either one, I would still end up happy cause I know at the end of the day, I can say, "hey at least I gave it a try and I did damn well at it..."

Anyways, I was given an opportunity to be on the set of the show before I even start the job. It was fun, hectic and kancheong but fun nevertheless. I guess because this is what I have always wanted to do so it doesn't feel as nerve wrecking as it is.

Well i hope many more would come because i really enjoy doing this sort of stuff. Also hopefully better things will come my way in this line of work. InsyaAllah...

Moral here is chase your dream no matter how difficult it is or how u feel like it leads no where cause at the end of the day it will get you somewhere!

Of Patience and Luck

Patience is a virtue.

Good things come to those who waits.

These are the things that we often hear when we talk about waiting for something to happen.

This is true to a certain extend. However, the question here would be how long can a person wait?

How long can a person endure the anxiety of waiting?

How certain are we that when we wait the good thing will come?

Or would death and defeat knocks on our door first before lady victorious greets us with her embrace?

I am not questioning God's work. I'm questioning men's ability to withstand the testing power of time, failure and pain.

We are not strong, but if you notice, there's something inside us that keeps us holding on. Even on that one fine strand of hope.

However, how many of us would actually pay attention to that tiny voice or spark of light that keeps on saying "hold on... hold on..."?

We hate being mislead with false alarm or false hope. How would we know that it is not?

However, like the American writer, Arthur Bloch said, "Every clarification breeds new questions" it shows that the more answer i have, the more questions i will start to ask... so sometimes

I have a lot of questions but few answers. Some might not answer the question.

I don't like this...

I often had bad encounters with Lady Luck. It seems like she doesn't want to be around me. I have no idea why. I really hope that she will be around because Mr Patience is getting to his boiling point, and he is ready to pack his bag and leave. I'm worried that Death and Defeat will fill the vacant space and breeds Bitter and Sorrow. That will be bad...i mean really really bad...

p.s: Irish, are they REALLY lucky?

The Joys in Life

Alhamdulillah after a few years of trying, this year has been good so far.

1. I was given the opportunity to host a show. On my own. A show called Pencak. A show that showcases 13 different types of silat from around Malaysia.

I know I might be the last person for people to imagine to be learning silat. But hey i represent the laymen who have no basic of silat at all. Yeah was a fun journey. Tiring but fun. Alhamdulillah... With that i managed to travel to several places that i might not go for no reason. It was truly an adventure of its own and i learnt alot.

InsyaAllah and hopefully it will be out after raya. And hopefully more job coming after that. Amiiiiiin...

2. For two years in a row, PNB has hired me to be their Quizmater for their gameshow.

Alhamdulillah. This shows that i did a good job and they trust in me to handle the event again. InsyaAllah more to come amiiiiiin...

On top of that, i am working at a place where the boss understands what i do and given me the levy to do it so as long as i do not neglect my responsibilites here.

Alhamdulillah all goes well... hopefully this will go on... InsyaAllah...

Hopes and dreams do come true it is only a matter of time and effort and it will come when we least expected it.
